The exhibition Within Black, Within White, and Other Paths presents an impressive journey curated from carefully selected works spanning Artin Demirci’s rich production over many years.
Inviting the viewer on a sensory stroll through rooms of black abstractions, gray tones, and colorful expressions, this exhibition — enriched intermittently with colorful interludes — prompts a deep interrogation of the conceptual, cultural, and political meanings of monochrome.

The selection, comprising more than fifty works organized according to the principle of color (or lack thereof), creates unexpected juxtapositions. Here, color and form, independent of their representational roles, allow us to see the works from entirely new perspectives. Artin Demirci’s exhibition follows precisely the paths indicated in the title: the artist focuses not on breaking down abstract forms but rather on constructing them.

Demirci, who explores color, surface, and light in his own unique ways, masterfully brings together different textures, linear grids, and organic paint stains to produce an abstract expressionist energy. The interaction between lines and curves creates a sense of movement across the canvas, guiding the viewer’s eye on a journey.
These works represent a quiet yet resilient painting odyssey that stubbornly scrapes away the reality veiled by time to bring it to light.

Artin Demirci successfully integrates his dynamic visual language into traditional painting compositions. By employing various surfaces and techniques — such as oil on canvas alongside acrylic on wood — he creates spatial depth.
The artist’s practice is the product of a journey that began in Hatay’s Samandağ and gained academic depth in Istanbul. His works emphasize the effect of light on objects and atmospheric depth. Focusing in his pieces on the historical development of painting alongside the concept of “journey” in his own practice, Demirci presents a comprehensive selection encompassing form and color experiments that extend to the present day, through works exploring the light within darkness and the mysterious texture of nature.
The solid drawing structure imparted by Neşet Günal’s atelier forms a prominent skeleton in his works. Layered depth and a sense of movement dominate his pieces; he elevates fullness over emptiness, dynamism over monotony. Interlocking forms, cones, and curves draw attention to a Baroque pursuit of depth and volume.
Spatial depth is masterfully reconfigured in Artin Demirci’s hands. The exhibition, with its innovative structure, invites the viewer into interaction on both emotional and intellectual levels.
As Johann Wolfgang von Goethe said: “Where there is much light, the shadow is deep.” One must enter the shadows and the paths.
